Acne

What is acne?

Acne is a common skin condition characterised by clogged pores, blackheads, papules and pustules. It frequently appears on the face, back and chest and primarily affects teenagers, although adults can also be affected.

What causes acne?

Acne is caused by excess sebum production, clogged hair follicles, bacteria and inflammation. Hormonal changes, certain medications, stress and an unhealthy diet can worsen the condition.

Possible dermatological treatments

Treatment options include topical and oral medications such as retinoids, antibiotics and benzoyl peroxide, chemical peels, laser and light therapy, and a tailored skincare routine designed to reduce excess sebum and inflammation.
